Blood pressure portal
Often getting one blood pressure measurement by the nurse or doctor can be misleading. There are two main reasons for this:
- People can get nervous at the surgery (white coat hypertension).
- Blood pressure fluctuates and can be higher or lower at different times of the day.
Because of this it’s very useful to have a series of measurements from patients in their own home. There are a number of machines available which are accurate and endorsed by the British Hypertension Society. The cheapest machine on their list is the Kinetik Wellbeing. It is available from numerous shops and online.
Home blood pressure monitoring
If we have asked you to measure your blood pressure at home you should measure it twice a day for seven days (morning and evening). Take the reading after relaxing for at least ten minutes. Take one to three readings and note the lowest.
When you have recorded all the readings you should input them into the form below. It will calculate the average and send it to us at the surgery. You should then wait for us to check it and get back to you.
